A lofty daylit studio gives an abstract painter room to grow.

The studio design started with a goal to move this artist’s growing business from a rented space to her own backyard. The space is voluminous and bright with 21 windows and glass doors on exterior walls enclosing only 760 SF. A 15’ tall wall at the low end of a butterfly roof creates an opportunity to work on large, immersive abstract canvases. The south-facing loft receives warm daylight while the one and a half story art studio benefits primarily from northern diffuse light perfect for painting. Concrete floors, clean white walls and warm exposed wood are the backdrop for creativity in this contemporary art studio. This private artist’s retreat is a revitalizing space that is flexible - a functional workshop that supports heads-down hard work, yet inviting enough to be a gallery space for friends to visit.

A baker’s kitchen dreams come true.

This project was a complete remodel of an existing kitchen and laundry to create a high functioning space that reflects the personality of the wonderful couple that lives here while maintaining a strong connection to the original 1940s home. The design incorporated new skylights to bring natural light into a previously dark space to illuminate work surfaces and bring richness to the materials within. Locally made tile was installed as a contemporary homage to the existing brick chimney. FSC certified recycled paper Richlite countertops were custom made to coordinate with the color pallette of the finishes. Fully custom sapele hardwood cabinets were built in our cabinet shop to create continuous smooth lines throughout. As always, we put the emphasis and care into well-crafted and thoughtful clean details so that the focus of this amazing kitchen can be on the beautiful and delicious baking that happens within!
